French Summer Academy - Stage intensif de français langue étrangère (FLE)

Program Information 

Learn French by the seaside at Institut Catholique d'Etudes Supérieures in La Roche-sur-Yon, France! Students can earn up to 6 UCCS credits during this intensive 3-week program via classes taught by native French speakers trained in teaching French as a second language. During these 3 immersive weeks, the aim will also be to practice French by discovering the history and culture of the region of Napoleon.

Course and Credit Information

This is a 3-week intensive French Language Program with native teachers specialized in teaching French as a Second Language.

  • Students will take a placement test before arrival
  • Courses are offered from beginner to advanced level
  • Small groups and individual tutoring
  • ~25/hours of class a week for 70 contact hours
  • Opportunity to get a Level Certificate
  • You may earn 12 ECTS (6.0 UCCS credits)
  • Free access to the Library and Media Center
Thanks to small groups and individual tutoring, the aim is to gain a CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) level during these three weeks of study.


You will be working on the six main skills: oral expression and comprehension, written and reading skills and oral/written interaction.

► Learning outcomes for Level A1 (complete beginners)/Level A2 (false beginners)

  • Ability to recognize concrete information on familiar topics encountered in everyday life.
  • Level A1: Phonetics, ask simple questions, understand simple answers, make appointments.
  • Level A2: Ability to deal with administrative paperwork, make reservation, speak about past and future events, take part in a routine conversation on simple predictable topics
► Learning outcomes for Level B1 (intermediate)/ Level B2 (intermediate+)
  • Ability to understand straightforward factual information about common every day or job-related topics. (Express feelings in a particular situation, describe a desire or a goal, ability to open a bank account).
► Learning outcomes for Level C1-C2 (advanced)
  • Ability to express an opinion on current affairs, to give the pros and cons, to communicate with emphasis on how well it's done, in term of appropriacy, sensitivity and the capacity to deal with unfamiliar topics, and to deal with hostile questioning confidently. Ability to debate.

Teaching method: use of textbooks. The professors will also work on various medium (photos, movies, articles...)


Cost and Payment Information

The total cost for this program is €1,500 (approximately $1,750 USD).

Cultural activities include:

NOT included in the cost of the program are round-trip international airfare, meals, personal expenses and spending money, medical travel insurance, and transportation to/from ICES.

Housing

All housing accommodations are provided by ICES and included in the cost of the program. The accommodations offer internet access, single occupancy rooms and private bathrooms, and shared kitchen and dining facilities.


Application Process

Students interested in this program will need to complete the following steps:
1. Apply to the UCCS Office of International Affairs (click on the Apply Now Button on this page) and submit the $50 application fee
2. Apply to the ICES International Relations Office via the ICES website

Passports and Immigration

All participants need to have a valid passport to participate in this program. The passport needs to be valid at least 6 months after the anticipated departure from France. Participants holding a U.S. Passport do not need a visa or additional permission to enter France for this program. Those who do not hold a U.S. Passport should check with the closest French embassy or consulate for the country they hold their passport from for entry requirements.
