Immigration and Visas

Students from the United States are in the Group 2 Category, and will need a passport and to apply for a Residence Permit/Visa. The following are steps on how to get the visa:

1.    You will receive an admission letter from the Radboud University Admission Office (Bachelor’s /Premaster’s and Master’s students) or a Letter of acceptance from the Faculty (Exchange students).
2.    Within two weeks after your admittance, the International Office will send you a Service Package e-mail with information about visa, housing and the orientation.
3.    The International Office will start your visa application in VisaCare, an online system used by the International Office to process your visa application, as soon as the Admission Office has sent you an (un)conditional admission letter and you have delivered the required documents for enrollment to the Admissions Office. Please note for students starting in September 2017: students admitted before March 2017 who have delivered the required enrollment papers, will first be contacted in March 2017. Other students will be contacted within 2 weeks after delivering the required enrollment documents.
4.    You will receive an e-mail with your password for VisaCare. You can now start uploading the required documents in VisaCare and pay the immigration fee and insurance fee. After you have uploaded all required documents in VisaCare, the total visa process will take approximately four to eight weeks. Please note: The immigration fee and/or the insurance fee are included in some scholarships. We will inform you if this applies to you. In that case you do not have to pay these fees yourself.
5.    The International Office will check your documents and will inform you by e-mail. Once all documents have been approved by the International Office, you can be asked to send several original documents to the International Office. If this applies to you, the International Office will inform you by e-mail.
6.    After the International Office has received your original documents (if required) and your payment, they will submit your application to the IND. They will inform you about this via e-mail. The IND can take up to three weeks to assess your visa application. Once the International Office receives the decision from the IND, they will inform you by e-mail.
7.    The IO will take care of your Insurance for one year.
For 2-year Master's students: this insurance will initially be for one year and will be extended by the International Office if you have met the IND criteria for study progress.
8.    After arrival in the Netherlands, you will receive your Insurance card. As the IND needs your biometric data before you receive your residence card you will also get an invitation from the Visa Department of the International Office to have your fingerprints and digital photo recorded by the IND.
9.    As soon as your residence card is ready, you will be informed by the International Office.

Costs and Tuition
UCCS students that have been accepted to study at Radboud as an exchange student will pay tuition and fees to UCCS for the appropriate number of credits (12-15) at their normal UCCS tuition rate. Students should expect to pay the following costs in country and out-of-pocket; airfare, housing, meals, books and supplies.

Financial Aid
Students are eligible to receive financial aid for this program as long as they maintain full-time status while abroad. Before departure students will need to receive pre-approval on all course work that they intend to take via their academic advisor or a faculty member through a study away form that can be obtained in the Global Engagement Office. Financial aid will not be released early for education abroad purposes. For specific questions regarding financial aid, students should contact the UCCS financial aid office directly.

Scholarships
Students are eligible to continue to receive most scholarships and grants that they would receive normally during the semester as long as there are not stipulations that students need to be on-campus. Students should confirm this with their appropriate contact for the scholarship. Students wishing to apply for scholarships for study abroad should visit our scholarship website.

Nijmegen, Netherlands

Nijmegen is the oldest city in
the Netherlands dating from Roman times when it was called Noviomagus or New Market. It is situated close to the German border on the banks of the River Waal, a branch of the Rhine. Badly damaged during the Second World War, much was done to rebuild the city in the post-war period leaving monuments of Nijmegen’s rich historical past to occupy a special position in the new city center. Today, it has some 161,000 inhabitants with a significant student population of more than 15,000. It is a green city, a safe and friendly place with a rich social and cultural life – theaters, cultural centers, cinemas and museums number in the twenties. Nijmegen's location and excellent rail service is also ideal for travel throughout Europe during the year.
