Program Description:

Global Brigades at UCCS: Student Group Volunteer Medical Brigade to Panama

Program Leaders: Professor Sabine Allenspach & Global Medical Brigades Club

Program Information

This is a not-for-credit volunteer program, and this site is a travel registration only site for the UCCS student club Global Medical Brigades. For those who are interested in participating in this trip or learning more, please contact Sabine Allenspach at sallensp@uccs.edu or search for the club on Mountain Lion Connect to get in touch with the club presidents. 

If you are part of the brigade going to Panama, you will need to register with the UCCS International Affairs office. You can do so by clicking on the Apply Now button above, which will prompt you to set up a profile in our system and begin your application.

Please direct all inquires regarding the brigade, including the itinerary, cost and payment information, and housing to Professor Allenspach or the club presidents.

Cost and Payment Information

Please see the program leaders for cost and payment information, including payment due dates. 

Included in the program cost are the following items:
  • Round-trip international airfare
  • Local accommodation
  • Local transportation
  • Daily meals
NOT included in the program cost are additional meals, souvenirs, tipping and personal spending money, and IA registration fee. 

Passports and Immigration

All participants need to have a valid passport to participate in this program. The passport needs to be valid at least 6 months after the anticipated departure. If a Visa is required, students must work through Global Brigades for said visa. 

Those who do not hold a U.S. Passport should check with the closest embassy or consulate for the country they hold their passport from for entry requirements.

Health and Safety

Health and safety are paramount to a successful experience studying abroad. We encourage students to research health and safety considerations of the destination they wish to travel to. The U.S. Department of State (DOS) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) provide up to date and comprehensive information about health and safety abroad. Please visit their websites to find more information. Global Brigades also has a list of recommended and required vaccines which can be found below and on their website.
VACCINE RECOMMENDATIONS
  • Routine vaccines
  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B (IOM highly recommends for Greece)
  • Measles
  • Rabies
  • Polio booster (Ghana only)
  • Malaria (all countries except Greece, recommended for all volunteers traveling to Ghana)
  • Typhoid (all countries except Greece)
  • COVID-19 vaccine and booster (highly recommended for all countries)
